The experiment on biometric identification of passengers will begin at Sheremetyevo Airport from June 1 of this year. Travelers flying to St. Petersburg will have the opportunity to board the plane without presenting a passport.

In the airport«s Telegram channel, they clarified:

»The launch of the pilot project is planned for Aeroflot flights on the route Sheremetyevo (Moscow) — Pulkovo (St. Petersburg) — Sheremetyevo (Moscow). Identification will be carried out using the unified biometric system and the unified identification and authentication system.«

Earlier, on January 22, Pulkovo Airport reminded of the successful demonstration of biometric services in the autumn of 2025. Passengers who have already registered their biometric data will be able to board using a QR code placed on the boarding pass. For now, this function is available only for domestic flights.

The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia announced the implementation of biometric identification when boarding planes and trains. On railway transport, the technology will first be tested in Moscow. The head of the Ministry of Transport, Andrey Nikitin, reported that experiments could start on suburban routes. Currently, the system is being tested on a limited group of passengers to assess its effectiveness.
