In Sochi, planned work to tidy up basements in multi-apartment residential buildings continues, the mayor«s press service reports. Today, crews were clearing out premises in the center on Chekhov Street. Authorities propose using them as shelters for citizens during emergencies.

It is noted that the clearance of basements is coordinated by the city administration with the involvement of Territorial Public Self-Government (TOS), proactive residents, and specialized contracting organizations. Basements are cleared of years of clutter from old equipment, furniture, and other garbage.

«The issue is under constant control, and we are maintaining planned interaction with management companies that service the district»s housing stock. Last year, we inspected over 600 basement premises in the Central District. Over the past period, covering this and the previous year, we have brought more than 125 underground spaces into proper condition. Additionally, under a municipal contract, we have organized the removal of car tires from container sites, with about 20 tons cleared out this year already,« said Inna Kazankova, head of the Sochi Central District administration.

We reported that back in late 2024, the prosecutor«s office through the court forced the Sochi administration to take on the balance and tidy up bomb shelters. But the authorities disagreed and began appealing the decision, although it was subject to immediate execution. In case of emergency, people are advised to use basements, semi-basements, underground parking, pedestrian crossings, and tunnels for shelter.
