Future graduates of Arkhangelsk schools and their parents, anxious about the Unified State Exam (USE) results, have already begun actively preparing. Those who are not very strong in a subject are turning to tutors. We examined how much specialists in Arkhangelsk ask for USE preparation.

Russian Language

The highest price a Russian language tutor asks for a lesson is from 2,000 rubles (about $20 at current rates). They offer lessons online, individually or in mini-groups.

The most budget offer is from 280 rubles (about $3 at current rates), but through an online school selling preparation courses for the Basic State Exam (BSE) and the USE.

Mathematics

The most expensive mathematics tutor will cost 3,000 rubles (about $30 at current rates), with lessons conducted online.

The lowest price is from 200 rubles (about $2 at current rates); there are several such ads, published with different Russian cities indicated.

Biology

The most expensive option is 3,000 rubles (about $30 at current rates); the advertisement is the same as for the mathematics tutor, featuring the same face. We refrain from judging whether this person exists or can truly prepare for both mathematics and biology.

There is an option not from an online school: a chemistry and biology tutor for 1,900 rubles (about $19 at current rates). They offer individual and group lessons.

The cheapest option is also from 280 rubles (about $3 at current rates) through an online school, as for Russian language preparation (the same school). There are ads with prices from 350 rubles (about $4 at current rates).

Chemistry

Among the most expensive options, besides the biology and chemistry tutor for 1,900 rubles, is one for 2,500 rubles (about $25 at current rates). However, inside the ad the price is lower: from 1,500 rubles (about $15 at current rates). Online, as the tutor themselves is a 2nd-year student in the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University (MSU).

The cheapest tutor is from 350 rubles (about $4 at current rates). They also prepare for biology and have a diploma in «Pharmacy.»

Physics

Among the tutors, there are those who do not teach directly but create video courses and sell them online. One can prepare for physics this way for 4,000 rubles per month (about $40 at current rates; inside the ad the price is 2,500 per month). You watch a lesson, send homework, it gets checked, and the next lesson is sent. For questions, you can contact the tutor for an online consultation.

Among the conventional options without a video lesson but online: 2,250 rubles (about $23 at current rates) per hour.

The cheapest option is from 350 rubles (about $4 at current rates).

History

Among the ads, many likely sell lessons from online schools, as the same face is used for both physics and history tutors. Therefore, again, the cheapest ad is from 350 rubles (about $4 at current rates), with the same girl who prepares for physics. Moreover, often the ad does not mention an online school inside, except that the pronoun «we» appears at the end, along with discounts for bringing a friend.

The most expensive option is from 2,200 rubles (about $22 at current rates) per hour.

Social Studies

Expensive options are from 3,000 rubles (about $30 at current rates) (the same one who prepares for mathematics and biology, possibly an online school). 2,200 rubles (about $22 at current rates) from a tutor who prepares for history. There is also an option for 2,800 rubles (about $28 at current rates) for an hour and a half, with one hour costing 2,000 rubles (about $20 at current rates).

The cheapest are from 350 rubles (about $4 at current rates) (likely a school), with several ads at 450 rubles (about $5 at current rates).

Literature

The cheapest literature tutor asks from 500 rubles (about $5 at current rates) for a lesson in mini-groups of 4-6 people. However, USE preparation in the list of services in the ad is indicated without a price; it is negotiable.

The most expensive option is 2,000 rubles (about $20 at current rates) for an hour-long lesson.

English Language

Preparation for the USE in English can cost 1,500 rubles (about $15 at current rates) for a group lesson and 2,000 rubles (about $20 at current rates) individually. Taught by a native speaker.

Cheap options are again from an online school, from 280 rubles (about $3 at current rates) per hour.

Geography

A geography tutor can cost no less than 590 rubles (about $6 at current rates) per hour. More common are prices of 600 and 700 rubles (about $6–$7 at current rates).

Among the expensive options for USE preparation in geography are those from 1,500 rubles (about $15 at current rates).

Computer Science

A computer science tutor from an online school will cost 2,500 rubles (about $25 at current rates) per lesson. More options are available for 1,500 rubles (about $15 at current rates), including those who teach outside of online schools, such as a teacher from Arkhangelsk.

Cheaper options are from 450 rubles (about $5 at current rates) per hour. Interestingly, the same ad from the same person has different prices, while they teach online. For Arkhangelsk the price is from 450 rubles, but for Severodvinsk it is already 595 rubles (about $6 at current rates) for the same services.

Among the ads, there are many quite obvious images of tutors generated by AI. At the same time, the description includes information about work experience, individual approach, and other details. Many tutors belong to online schools or associations that offer free trial lessons. Often the price listed in the ad is not current: the description clarifies that it is negotiable or several times higher. Most tutors conduct lessons online.
