Russian schoolchildren are set to learn how to assemble and pilot drones in classes on the basics of safety and homeland defense (OBZR). The government has approved a list of nearly 90 items of equipment for these classrooms.

Basic Equipment for OBZR Classrooms

The basic set for equipping classrooms includes weapon models and means for teaching first aid:

  1. Weapon models: life-size models of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, Makarov pistol, AK-74 magazine with dummy cartridges, mock hand grenades.

  2. First aid means: resuscitation manikin trainer, tourniquets, splints, a full set of dressing materials.

  3. Personal protective equipment: gas masks, respirators, general military protective kit, light protective suit.

Additional List

The expanded equipment list, consisting of more than 50 items, is reported by RIA Novosti. The list emphasizes modern technology and practical skills.

  1. Training for working with UAVs: educational kits for drones, drone constructors, hardware complex for piloting, software for air races.

  2. Simulators: electronic or pneumatic shooting range for practicing shooting skills.

  3. Specialized equipment: obstacle course elements, night vision device, radios, equipment for mountain and water training (carabiners, life jackets).

Additional Equipment for Practice

The list also includes items of field and special use, intended to acquaint students with army life and emergency rescue work:

  • Soldier«s gear: mess tin, flask, entrenching tool, tent;

  • Rescue equipment: lifebuoy, vest, rope for saving drowning persons;

  • Control and measuring instruments: household dosimeter, gas analyzer, mini-laboratory for radiation and chemical reconnaissance;

  • Firefighter»s combat clothing.

OBZR stands for basics of safety and homeland defense, a school subject that was introduced from 1 September 2024 in Russian schools. It combines familiar lessons on the basics of life safety (OBZh) and in-depth classes on initial military training.
