Governor Proposes Merger of Two Colleges in Yaroslavl

The College of Food Industry in Yaroslavl may be reorganized. The corresponding project was submitted to the government on 20 January 2026.
«Reorganize the Yaroslavl Technological and Economic College by merging the Yaroslavl College of Food Industry into it,» is stated in the document signed by Governor Mikhail Yevrayev.
Note that this is only a draft resolution for now. The government is accepting comments via email at dobr@yarregion.ru within a week from 20 January.
«The reorganization will help meet society»s demands in the field of secondary vocational education and avoid duplication in the training structure for qualified workers, employees, and mid-level specialists,« is stated in the explanatory note.
The academic buildings of the Yaroslavl Technological and Economic College are located at: Bolshiye Polyanki Street, houses 1 and 5, and Chkalova Street, 34. The buildings of the College of Food Industry are located on Sovetskaya Street, 77 and Uglichskaya Street, 24.
Moreover, after the merger, the college will be able to create optimal conditions to ensure accessibility of secondary vocational education for all citizens, including children with disabilities and children with special needs.
«Adoption of the draft resolution will not require additional funding from the regional budget,» is written in the document.
The institution under a new name may start operating from 27 April. According to the project, the merged college will have a staff of 379 full-time positions.
We have sent a request to the Ministry of Education of Yaroslavl Region to find out if layoffs are planned at the colleges. We will publish the response.
Incidentally, the Yaroslavl Technological and Economic College itself was formed after the Yaroslavl College of Hotel and Construction Service was merged into the Yaroslavl Trade and Economic College.
In October 2025, we reported on the plans of the Ministry of Education for further reorganization of the education sector in Yaroslavl Region, specifically on optimizing the work of colleges and technical schools. As officials previously explained, this work has been ongoing since 2015.
In total, there are 31 colleges in Yaroslavl Region.
