Freezing weather closes schools for first shift in KhMAO

First-shift students across the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug will stay home for remote learning on 23 January due to extreme cold.

The cold snap in Yugra has lingered, much to schoolchildren«s delight. On 23 January, an aktirovka (day off due to extreme weather) has been declared for first-shift students in all municipalities. Classes are canceled for students in the following cities due to low air temperatures:

  • Surgut – grades 1–8;
  • Nizhnevartovsk – grades 1–11;
  • Kogalym – grades 1–11;
  • Nyagan – grades 1–8;
  • Nefteyugansk – grades 1–11;
  • Langepas – grades 1–11;
  • Beloyarsky – grades 1–8;
  • Raduzhny – grades 1–11;
  • Megion – grades 1–11;
  • Pokachi – grades 1–11;
  • Pyt-Yakh – grades 1–11;
  • Khanty-Mansiysk – grades 1–11;
  • Uray – grades 1–11;
  • Yugorsk – grades 1–11;
  • Sovetsky – grades 1–11;
  • Lyantor – grades 1–11.

The day off also applies to settlements in the Beloyarsky, Berezovsky, Kondinsky, Nefteyugansky, Nizhnevartovsky, Oktyabrsky, Sovetsky, Surgutsky, Khanty-Mansiysky, and Oktyabrsky districts of Yugra.

At the time of the announcement, air temperatures in cities and settlements ranged from -32 to -40°C (-25.6 to -40°F). This was reported by the «Gosuslugi. My Yugra» website.
