Chelyabinsk Cancels School Classes Over Frost

On the evening of 22 January, the Unified Duty and Dispatch Service of Chelyabinsk announced the cancellation of school classes for Friday, 23 January, due to unfavorable weather conditions.

All students — from grades 1 to 11, regardless of shift — may stay home.
According to weather service data, the city is experiencing temperatures of -30 °C (-22 °F), with a cooling to -31 °C (-24 °F) expected by morning.
Last week, due to the frost, school lessons were already cancelled three times for all grades.
At that time, thermometers dropped below -30 °C (-22 °F), and in some areas of the region, they reached -45 °C (-49 °F).
However, over the following weekend days, a sharp warming occurred, and the Epiphany holiday (a Christian celebration) passed in comfortable temperatures.
At the same time, according to the Hydrometeorological Center forecast, January 2026 in the Chelyabinsk region is not expected to be abnormally cold.
