ZabSU Students Develop Robotic Excavator Prototype

The robotic excavator is intended for operation in open-pit mines and quarries within the region.
Students at Zabaikalsky State University have completed the main phase of work on a prototype robotic excavator, as reported on January 24 in the Telegram channel of the regional government. It will be tested at the region«s coal mines and ore quarries.
«The team is developing a working prototype of an excavator with automated control, which allows for practicing robotic rock excavation technologies. A hydraulic system was designed and calibrated to ensure precise movement of the working equipment, and a load monitoring system was implemented to track the forces on the hydraulic cylinders during operation. All key elements are integrated into a single electronic control unit, which ensures the coordinated operation of the entire system,» the message stated.
The development also uses machine vision elements—an infrared rangefinder and a stereo camera. University students worked on 3D prototyping, electronics assembly, and software configuration. The project is being implemented under the «Priority-2030» program.
