In Yekaterinburg, the Verkh-Isetsky District Court arrested 44-year-old Stanislav Danilov. He is accused of desecrating the Eternal Flame (Part 2, Article 243.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, on January 27 on Kommunarov Street, Danilov lay on the monument, lit a copper wire from the flame, and drank alcohol. He was sent to a pre-trial detention center until March 28. The Investigative Committee is conducting an inspection.

«The accused is a native Yekaterinburger and at 44 years old clearly knew that the Eternal Flame on Kommunarov Square is a sacred place for every Sverdlovsk resident. Nevertheless, he had the audacity to commit blasphemous acts, for which he now faces up to five years in prison. To add to his characterizing information, it remains only to say that he has been repeatedly held administratively and criminally liable,» said Valery Gorelykh, head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Sverdlovsk Region.

Earlier we wrote about how in Serov a woman extinguished the Eternal Flame at a local memorial. She took a mourning wreath, carried it to the burner, and then disappeared. Law enforcement officers detained her the same day.

For similar behavior in St. Petersburg, two Yekaterinburg residents were detained— young people poured alcohol on the Eternal Flame, it was caught on video.
