The Investigative Committee for Stavropol Krai reported that on April 12, 1997, the body of a 17-year-old local resident was found 50 meters from the fence of an industrial enterprise in the regional capital on Starmaryevskoe Highway. The girl«s body showed signs of violent death. At that time, biological traces belonging to an unknown person were found on the victim»s clothing. The perpetrator could not be found at that moment.
The case remained unsolved for a long time. Modern research methods allowed specialists to identify the DNA profile of a person registered in the database. As a result, a 51-year-old man was detained.
During interrogation, he said that in 1997 he met the girl and suggested they chat in an acquaintance«s apartment. There, the young people drank, and then a conflict began. In the end, everything ended tragically: the man strangled the underage guest, then decided to cover up the traces, wrapped the body in a blanket, and took it away by car.
In the near future, law enforcement agencies will send the case to court for consideration.
This is not the first solved crime committed decades ago. In Yessentuki, law enforcement agencies have resumed the investigation of a criminal case and after 24 years detained a man. He is accused of murdering his partner, with whom he organized a business for bottling mineral water and juices. It turned out that a conflict arose between the men at that time. The accused wanted to become the sole manager. In 2001, he offered another acquaintance to kill his business partner, and was willing to pay $50,000 for it.
