Liski District Deputy Head Detained on Bribery Charges

The deputy head of the administration of Liski District in the Voronezh Region has been charged with receiving a large bribe, committed with extortion. The regional Investigative Committee reported this on January 30.
The official«s detention became known the day before. According to the investigation, on January 28, the official received 200,000 rubles (about $2,000 at current rates) from a resident of Liski at a gas station. For this amount, the deputy head was supposed to help with obtaining veterinary accompanying documents for the bribe-giver»s goods.
A pre-trial restraint has already been chosen for the official. Although the accused and his lawyer requested house arrest, the court granted the prosecutor«s motion and sent the deputy head to a pre-trial detention center. He will remain in custody for at least two months, until the end of March.
The head of Liski District, Igor Kirnos (more about him can be found in our article), has six deputies. According to the publication «Ploshchad», the arrested official is Dmitry Afanaseenko, the head of the department for programs and development of rural areas.
