Law enforcement suspects that errors by management and staff may have led to the deaths of nine people at a psychiatric care home in Prokopyevsk. Preliminarily, three of them died after contracting the flu during a mass outbreak at the facility, the regional investigative committee reported on Thursday, January 29.
In recent days, law enforcement has interviewed the facility«s employees and seized documents, including those related to sanitary regulations. Investigators are now determining if there is a causal link between staff actions, the spread of the flu, and the deaths.
Preliminarily, officials and employees allowed the facility to be in a state that contributed to the virus outbreak. Among other things, SanPiN (sanitary rules and norms) may have been violated in the building.
According to the committee, since January 23, 46 residents have been infected with type A flu, and all are in the hospital. Three of the patients have died due to the virus, and the causes of death for another six people are being investigated.
The editorial office of NGS42.RU, in addition to details about the deaths in Prokopyevsk, published photos of the places where residents were buried. Local residents did not know that there was a cemetery there.
Previously, we reported that residents of the facility, including bedridden patients, may have been kept in the cold and fed half-rotten food for several months.
A cardiologist told our editorial office that, despite the official cause of death, most died from heart complications, which could have been triggered by acute respiratory diseases (ARD), acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), or the flu that was detected in the facility.
All the most important information about the situation in Prokopyevsk is collected in a special report.
