A woman in the Tyumen Region has died after being bitten by a cat. This was reported by our colleagues at 72.RU.

The tragedy occurred in December 2025; it turned out that the cat had contracted rabies from another animal in the forest and then bit the woman.

«A resident of the Berdyuzhsky District was bitten by a cat that had been in contact with a sick animal in the forest. The woman did not report the incident and did not seek medical help. Later, she died from rabies infection,» writes the official publication of the Tyumen District, citing Elena Mytsik, a representative of Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian consumer rights and human wellbeing watchdog.

Experts also noted that the fatality rate from rabies is one hundred percent.

The only existing protection against rabies for pets is immunoprophylaxis. Cats and dogs can be vaccinated for free with a Russian vaccine at state veterinary clinics.

In November 2025, NGS reported that a rabies quarantine had been introduced in the Kirovsky District after an infected fox was found. This is the first time in several years that a sick animal has been found in the city.

Restrictive measures were established within a kilometer radius of house No. 58/1 on Sibiryakov-Gvardeytsev Street until January 15, 2026. The site where an inspector of the regional Ministry of Natural Resources found the fox«s corpse was declared the epicenter.
