Local National Geographic: Tomsk Resident Films Predator Chasing Squirrel
Wild animals are being spotted more frequently on the streets of Tomsk. At the end of last year, eyewitnesses saw foxes strolling through the city center on multiple occasions. Most recently, Tomsk resident Sergei Kuznetsov filmed a predatory tawny owl chasing a red squirrel in the city center.
Sergei told NGS70.RU that he noticed the long-tailed tawny owl hunting the squirrel yesterday, January 21, around five in the evening in the parking lot near Lagerny Garden.
Sergei«s footage first shows a frightened squirrel running quickly away from something (or someone), after which the tawny owl landed on a branch.
From its high perch, the bird tracked the squirrel as it ran behind a snowdrift and then dove after it. The further fate of the fluffy creature is unknown.
