Amur tiger that killed dog to be captured near Big Kamen

Specialists have confirmed the presence of an Amur tiger in the area of the SNT «Zarya» dacha community in Primorye. Permission to remove the predator was obtained after two months of complaints from local residents, who were ready to abandon their dachas due to fear of the Amur tiger roaming near the plots.

The press service of the Amur Tiger Center noted that after an appeal from a resident of Big Kamen, specialists from the Department for the Protection of Wildlife Objects of the Ministry of Forestry of Primorye went to the site for inspection.
On the border of the dacha community, they indeed discovered tiger tracks and recorded the disappearance of one dog from a plot adjacent to the forest.
The department noted that the SNT territory itself is in a neglected state: many plots are abandoned, overgrown with weeds, fences are destroyed, and there is no lighting. Moreover, a large number of stray dogs inhabit the dacha area.
“Probably, these are animals that people simply abandoned after the end of the dacha season. They serve as potential prey and attracted the tiger here,” the specialists explained.
According to the Amur Tiger Center, permission to remove the predator has already been obtained. Currently, the situation is being monitored, and in case the animal reappears near the SNT, it will be captured.
The Ministry of Forestry emphasized that along with the work of specialists, the role of local authorities and plot owners is also important. The municipality and dacha owners were recommended to clear the territory and organize lighting.
“Often, this is enough to scare away a cautious predator,” the department noted.
Earlier, we wrote that only in January 2026, five Amur tigers and two tiger cubs were removed from the wild in Primorye. Two of them were captured recently in the most touristy area of Primorye — in the area of the village of Andreevka in the Khasansky district.
